Before 1700
Native American Occupation
1720
Jacob Crouse, first known white settler.
1750
First store opened by William Seeber near Sand Hill area.
1772
Tryon County erected from Albany County.
1777
Five well-established forts are within the town.
1780
A group of Tories and Indians led by Joseph Brant ravaged the Duthchtown and Freysbush sections.
1782
General George Washington visits Fort Plain.
1784
Tyron County renamed Montgomery after General Richard Montgomery who died at Quebec during the American Revolution.
1798
Town of Minden was formed from the Canajoharie District.
1825
Erie Canal completed and opened.
1883
West Shore Railroad Line completed.
1990
Town population is 4,474.
